Africa & Me
Identity, heritage and self-discovery
Birthright, for Promise of Africa, means the right to know, explore and build a meaningful relationship with the cultures, histories, languages, communities and possibilities that form part of a young person’s African story. It is not about prescribing one identity; it is about creating room for discovery, pride, curiosity and belonging.
- What it does
- Identity, heritage and self-discovery
- Intended outcome
- Stronger identity and confidence
Why it matters
Young people today are navigating adolescence in a world shaped by social media, migration, multicultural families, changing social norms and intense peer pressure. For many young people of African heritage, this can include the additional challenge of navigating multiple cultural identities without safe spaces to explore what those identities mean.
When young people know their roots, they can stand confidently in the world – and make a difference.
